Data Alert: Australia has the Third Largest HNWI Population in the Asia-Pacific Region 13 October 2010 Asia-Pacific’s high net worth individuals (HNWIs) rose 26 per cent to 3 million in 2009, catching up with Europe’s HNWIs for the first time according to the 2010 Asia-Pacific Wealth Report released by Merrill Lynch Global Wealth Management and Capgemini. Asia-Pacific HNWI wealth also surged 31 per cent to US$9.7 trillion in 2009, surpassing the US$9.5 trillion in wealth held by Europe’s HNWIs in 2009. Benefitting from almost 20 years of sustained economic growth, Australia has become the third largest HNWI market in the Asia-Pacific region. Australia is distinguished by the resilience of its economy, the sophistication of its financial markets, and the innovative nature of its A$1.7 trillion funds management sector underpinned by its mandatory retirement income policy.
