Fujitsu opens data centre in Western Australia 21 December 2010 Leading global IT provider, the Japan-based company Fujitsu, has opened a data centre in Perth, Western Australia. Located in Perth, the new multi-million data centre will service the west-Australian market and target growing cloud solution opportunities in Asia. Fujitsu officially opened the data centre in conjunction with financial services client, Bankwest, which services more than a million customers and is wholly owned by the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. The new data centre covers 8,000 square meters, with more than 3,000 square meters of Tier III highly secure raised floor space. Purpose-built for the west-Australian climate, the advanced design features of the new complex include a hybrid cooling system that will enable Fujitsu to offer clients free cooling for approximately eight months of the year – a potential decrease of the cooling load by up to 50 per cent. Ultrasonic humidifiers also provide further cost advantages because they require 80 per cent less energy than traditional units. Active in promoting environmental principles, Fujitsu is involved in The Green Grid, a global consortium which works to improve energy efficiency in data centre and business computing ecosystems.
