24 May 2011
Sydney has rated highly in PWC’s recent Cities of Opportunity report, finishing fifth among 26 cities ranked according to key indicators.
PWC identified these cities across a range of measures including business, economic, technological, educational and demographic variables.
Sydney rated first in ease of starting a business and its citizens’ purchasing power. It also rated highly on cost-competitiveness, demographics and liveability, and sustainability.
The report notes that the most globally competitive cities are those that offer their workers the personal and professional surrounds that can reasonably ensure their health, safety and well-being.
The top five ranking cities were New York, Toronto, San Francisco, Stockholm, and Sydney.
In another recent report, the Economist Intelligence Unit ranked Sydney as the seventh-most liveable city in the world, with Melbourne placed second, and Perth and Adelaide equal eighth.
