Australia is amongst the world’s most attractive destinations for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), according to the 2011 IBM Global Location Trends report.
The report ranked Australian as a top 20 destination for FDI based on the number of jobs that the FDI was expected to create over the year. Last year, FDI into Australia created more than 3,700 new jobs, up by 30 per cent on 2009.
In 2010, Asia overtook the United States of America as one of the largest source regions of FDI, second only to Europe. The report also ranked Australia as the 8th most attractive destination for FDI in in the Asia Pacific Region.
According to IBM’s annual investment trends report, 2010 was a year of recovery in the global market for FDI. The number of jobs created by FDI globally increased by 25 per cent whilst the number of projects increased by around 10 per cent.
“After three years of decline, many countries are benefitting from increasing inward investment levels,” the report said.
“The driving force behind the growing investment has been an effort by companies to position themselves for the realities of a new global economy.”
