New collaborative research powering Australian innovation
7 December 2011
Australia has committed A$148 million in funding for new Cooperative Research Centres (CRCs) spanning the automotive, agricultural and urban water sectors.
In 2011, six of fourteen applicants were successful in the final CRC selection round. The new CRCs will enhance Australian capability in urban water management, sustainable manufacturing, and agricultural innovation.
The Minister for Innovation, Senator Kim Carr, said funding for the six new centres will cement collaboration between Australia’s world-class researches and their industry counterparts, and reaffirms the commitment to the Government’s Innovation Agenda.
“These CRCs will research the major challenges facing Australia, as well as our big opportunities,” Senator Carr said.
“Their collaborations will deliver important economic, environmental and social benefits. This is about improving the living standard of all Australians.”
Australia’s CRC Program was established in 1991 to build partnerships between industry, research institutions, governments and communities. To date, 190 CRCs have received funding from the Australian Government.
