US games developer opens studio in Australia

25 June 2012

The US developer of competitive online combat strategy games, Kixeye, has opened a studio in Australia.

“The talent pool in Australia is exploding,” said Kixeye’s chief executive, Will Harbin.

Kixeye’s new Australian team is from the Brisbane strategy games developer, 3 Blokes Studio, which had previously worked on games such as Rome: Total War.

Founded in 2007, the California-based Kixeye now has over 4.5 million monthly active users for games such as Backyard Monsters on Facebook. The company has been so successful on the world’s leading social network site that until now it has not expanded beyond Facebook, but it is currently looking at also moving into mobile.

Kixeye’s expansion into Australia furthers the games developer’s goal of acquiring top industry talent, both locally and internationally.
