Data Alert: Australia remains home to the Asia-Pacific’s third largest HNWI population2 July 2012In 2011, the Asia-Pacific region overtook North America for the first time as being home to the world’s largest population of high net worth individuals (HNWIs). The number of HNWIs – people with greater than US$1 million in investable assets – now living in the Asia-Pacific region indicates a shift of wealth across the globe due to recent economic downturn, according to the 2012 World Wealth Report released by Capgemini and RBC Wealth Management. In 2011, Japan, China and Australia accounted for three quarters of the region’s HNWI population and Australia was ranked as the world’s ninth largest HNWI market. Australian’s strengthening position as a market for HNWIs reflects the strength, resilience and sophistication of the country’s economy and is indicative of Australia’s attractiveness as a foreign investment destination.
