Australian University selected as Siemens’ smart energy partner6 July 2012Australia’s Monash University was recently chosen from among the world’s top research institutes to partner with Siemens to develop smart grid energy solutions. Monash University’s research proposal was one of ten projects selected for sponsorship as part of Siemens Technology’s Smart Grid Innovation Contest. The competition sought to establish global research collaborations on smart grid technologies such as real time simulation, demand response, and monitoring. Successful projects included innovative ideas for new business models and new technologies to make energy systems smarter and more environmentally-friendly. Since announcing the winning proposals, Siemens has established joint research teams to support collaboration between the company and its partner universities. The company is expected to invest around EUR 1 million towards its collaborative smart grid research. Along with Australia’s Monash University, Siemens smart grid research partners include: North America’s University of California Berkeley and Georgia Tech; Germany’s TU Berlin; TU Wien in Austria; the Universidad de Sevilla in Spain; and Canada’s University of Alberta.
