Spanish company to build Australia’s largest solar farm in the ACT
17 September 2012
Australia’s largest photovoltaic (PV) solar farm will be built in Canberra by Spanish renewable energy company Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV).
FRV will build the solar farm on 50 hectares near Royalla, 23kms south of Canberra CBD, after it won the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Government’s reverse auction for a 20 year Feed in Tariff entitlement.
The 20 megawatt facility will be made up of 83,000 PV panels and produce enough renewable electricity to power 4,500 Canberra homes.
When completed the Royalla solar farm will be the largest PV plant operating in Australia and is part of the ACT Government’s sustainable energy policy to promote the greater use of solar in Canberra.
Construction of the solar farm is planned for 2013 and set to be completed in 2014.
The project is expected to deliver significant benefits to the local economy, creating numerous jobs during construction and when the facility commences operation.
FRV is a leading worldwide solar company with an active presence in Australia, South Africa, Latin America, the Middle East and Europe.
Since 2006 FRV has participated in the development of more than 1.5 GW, having completed the construction, operation, maintenance and financing of more than 360MW of PV and CSP solar energy plants.
Country Manager of FRV Australia, Mr Andrea Fontana, said “FRV brings a high level of unique know how and expertise to the Australian market with a proven global track record of developing, constructing and delivering large scale solar power projects.”
