17 October 2012

Australia’s overall global competitiveness ranking remained unchanged from 2011-12 according to the World Economic Forum’s latest report, The Global Competitiveness Report 2012-13.

The report assesses 144 economies across 12 pillars of competitiveness, including infrastructure, education, macroeconomic environment, labour market efficiency, financial market development, technological readiness and innovation. Australia ranked highly across a number of criteria that drive investment opportunities and innovation.

Among these were secondary and tertiary education enrolments - crucial in underpinning a highly skilled labour force; financial market development ensuring access to finance, business environment and institutions; market efficiency and openness to trade and foreign ownership, and the quality of our research institutions.
