European aeronautical company launches new facility in Australia
20 December 2012
Eurocopter, a subsidiary of the large European Aeronautic, Defense and Space Company (EADS), has opened a helicopter support centre in Perth, Australia.
The Franco-German-Spanish Eurocopter group, the world’s leading helicopter manufacturer, was created twenty years ago with the merger of the helicopter divisions of DaimlerChrysler Aerospace from Germany and Aerospatiale-matra from France.
The new Eurocopter Perth facility was commissioned to support customer helicopters operating on the north-west shelf region of Western Australia for the gas and oil industry.
Oliver Lambert, Eurocopter’s Senior Vice President for Sales and Customer Relations, said that because of the isolation of Western Australia’s north-west shelf region from Europe and the vast, remote area in which the helicopters have to operate, the company wanted to be able to provide customers with in-country, close-proximity support facilities.
‘With this facility, we are able to demonstrate to our customers and the booming resource industry, Eurocopter’s commitment to the development of what is one of the world’s fastest growing oil and gas regions,” Mr Lambert said.
Eurocopter’s new Perth support centre includes office, training, maintenance and warehousing facilities and will be managed by Australian Aerospace Limited, Eurocopter’s Asia-Pacific subsidiary.
Eurocopter SA makes a range of civilian and military helicopters and provides helicopter repair and maintenance services; in 2011, the company recorded a turnover of 5.4 billion Euros. Australian Aerospace supports more than 400 Eurocopter helicopters in the Asia-Pacific region.
