Germany’s Fuchs opens A$4.5m warehouse in Australia to aid Asian expansion

11 September 2013

The Australian arm of Germany’s Fuchs Petrolub has opened a A$4.5 million warehouse in Melbourne as part of its push to expand into South-East Asia and lead the region’s industrial lubricant research and development (R&D).

Fuchs’ expansion plans highlight Australia’s ties to Asia and attraction as a regional R&D hub.

Melbourne-based Fuchs Lubricants Australasia makes specialty lubricants for the industrial, automotive and mining sectors, and the state-of-the-art warehouse is the basis of a broader investment strategy that will help drive the company’s regional expansion, according to Georg Lingg, Fuchs Executive Board Member for the Asia-Pacific region and Africa.

“The Australasian business plays such an important role in the South-East Asian region, and we are consistently looking at ways to invest and improve efficiency in high-performing markets like Australia,” Dr Lingg said.

The company launched a regional lubricant laboratory and technical centre in Melbourne about two years ago to boost local and regional development and sales. It recently said it would spend a further A$1.5 million to expand the centre’s capacity and boost its efficiency.

Fuchs Petrolub was founded in 1931 as a family firm in Mannheim, Germany. Today, it is a global company and a leading supplier of specialty lubricants for the automotive, mining and other industries, among independent companies.

Fuchs Lubricants (Australasia) Pty Ltd is the Australian division of the German parent. It has 12 distribution sites throughout Australia and New Zealand, with manufacturing facilities in Melbourne, Perth and Newcastle, all with individual R&D, distribution and quality-control capabilities.
