Data Alert: Australia’s business investment in R&D posts steady growth

Australia’s business research and development (R&D) workforce grew 15 per cent over the year to 2011-12, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).
In its latest Research and Experimental Development, Businesses report, the ABS also said Australia’s business expenditure on R&D (BERD) increased 1.7 per cent to A$18.3 billion in 2011-12, representing compound annual growth of 10.3 per cent over the last 20 years.
Australia’s robust expansion in human resources devoted to R&D and continued growth in BERD reflect a national commitment to innovation, as well as developing new products and services.
