Advanced Manufacturing: Automated Equipment for Manufacture

Australia’s broad and diversified manufacturing industry is served by a large range of specialised automation and robotics system suppliers able to deliver innovative and efficient automation solutions for any processing, manufacturing, handling, assembly or packaging requirements.

Multi-disciplinary engineering teams, with expertise in software design and robotics applications, enable development of integrated advanced automation systems with proven manufacturing technologies and processes.

Other automated equipment

Existing developers of automated equipment are supported by two specialist research centres in the automation area: the Centre of Excellence for Autonomous Systems and the Centre for Complex Dynamic Systems and Control.

The Centre of Excellence for Autonomous Systems is a partnership between the Australian Centre for Field Robotics at the University of Sydney, the Artificial Intelligence Group at the University of New South Wales, and the Mechatronics & Intelligent Systems Group at the University of Technology Sydney.

The Centre has considerable expertise and experience in the design and development of guidance and navigation systems, the design and development of automated vehicles, vehicle control, condition monitoring and safety systems, and the development of appropriate sensor and embedded computing hardware.

The Centre undertakes contract research and development of automated industrial vehicles, cargo handling systems, automated mining and construction vehicles, remote undersea platforms, and aerospace systems, and consults actively to industry and government.

The Centre for Complex Dynamic Systems and Control (CDSC) is linked to the Schools of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and Mathematical and Physical Sciences at the University of Newcastle, and the School of Mathematical Sciences at the Queensland University of Technology.

Complex dynamic systems are an inescapable part of the world we live in, from biological and environmental systems, through to industrial processes, telecommunications networks, transportation and energy infrastructure.

The CDSC is becoming an international authority in the analysis, design and optimisation of complex dynamic systems. The outcomes of its work will be of specific benefit to partner organisations including the automotive, minerals, process, and metal forming industries.

Robotics

Industrial robots are being used increasingly in manufacturing, processing and logistics. The benefits of automation include increased efficiency and productivity combined with increased product quality and maximum production and process flexibility.

Improved technology is reducing the cost of robotic automation, making it an effective solution in a greater variety of businesses. Australian precision manufacturing and automation companies can offer turnkey solutions from concept development to installation and commissioning.
