Aussie wines shine at 2011 Hong Kong International Wine and Spirits Fair
Australia’s reputation as a premium wine producer reached new heights at the 2011 Hong Kong International Wine and Spirits Fair (HKIWSF), Asia’s leading wine trade show.
Australia’s wine making heritage, diversity and innovation were demonstrated at the HKIWSF. 53 Australian wineries were represented in the Australian Pavilion where wine buyers could find multi-award winning wines from well-known regions like the Barossa and Clare Valleys in South Australia, the Hunter Valley and Orange regions in New South Wales, as well as the cool climates of Tasmania, and the Margaret River district in Western Australia. Most of these wines are proven complements to a wide variety of foods, including Chinese and other Asian cuisines. Hong Kong and China represent Australia’s third largest and fastest growing export market by value. This equates to 70 million bottles of Australian wine in the past 12 months.
Wine Australia ran a very popular A+ Education School-Master Class to share with visitors the strength of Australian winemakers how to combine tradition with new ideas and technology. Visitors experienced the taste of some iconic and award winning wines such as Chardonnay from Adelaide Hills, Riesling from the Great Southern Region, Shiraz from the Barossa Valley, and Cabernet Sauvignon from Coonawarra.
To reinforce Australia’s reputation in Asia, our winemakers were the most highly awarded at the international wine competition which coincided with HKIWSF. Australian wines also won the most trophies for food pairing, validating the reputation by Australian wines as the perfect complement to Asian cuisines.
The details of each individual Australian exhibitor can be found in the exhibitor directory (PDF, 5.5MB). Please contact us to get introductions to new brands that would be suitable for Hong Kong.
