New resource for foreign trade representatives launched

Geneva-based International Trade Centre has launched a new edition of the United Nations-endorsed training guide for foreign trade representatives (FTRs), the only one of its kind in the world.
The publication, Entering New Markets: A Guide For Trade Representatives is designed to assist FTRs and their supervising bodies. It is a hands-on manual explaining how to promote trade overseas within the context of national policy and export strategies. Set in the context of the current global economic circumstances, it makes the case for foreign trade representation services as an invaluable contribution to national competitiveness.
Former Austrade Senior Trade Commissioner, Mr Lloyd Downey is the lead author of the guide. The publication was launched in Australia by Austrade’s Executive Director of International Operations, Mr Laurie Smith to an audience of international trade representatives.
The guide is just the third update of the original publication, Official Commercial Representation Abroad, which was released in 1973, and this is the second time a former Australian Trade Commissioner has been its lead author.
Mr Downey has extensive experience as in international trade promotion having been a senior Australian trade representative in Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain and the UAE, and having held several senior executive positions in a career spanning more than 35 years.
