Austrade media release

10 Nov 2006

Seven South-East Queensland artists are promoting their work in the Middle East as part of A Gift of Colour, an exhibition running until 8 December in Dubai’s Mondo Arte Gallery.

Australian art sells particularly well in the Middle East, with a recent exhibition of Aboriginal works from the Northern Territory’s Maningrida Arts and Culture achieving a near sell-out when displayed at the La Fontaine Centre of Contemporary Art in Bahrain.

Asha James, Austrade’s Dubai-based art and fashion business development manager, said the new Mondo Arte Gallery was quickly gaining a reputation for cutting edge design and art from around the world.

“These artists, all from Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast, will have their modern, contemporary work exposed to a thriving, lucrative market here in Dubai,” Ms James said.

“The Mondo Arte concept was conceived by Raffaella Carnevale and designed by Enrico Mari Grego from Italy, and fully furnished with Philippe Starck furniture.

Ms James said the artists represented at A Gift of Colour were also acknowledged at an international level, in locations including New York, Tokyo, Los Angeles, London and Paris.

“They will exhibit a range of disciplines: painting, sculpture and design,” she said.

The seven artists are:

  • Ian Smith – Dutton Park, painting
  • Kathryn Brimblecombe-Fox – St Luca, painting
  • Mostyn Bramley-Moore – South Brisbane, painting and drawing
  • Nicole Voevodin-Cash – Buderim, design
  • Daniel Tobin – Eagle Farm, sculpture and design
  • Rodney Simmons – Brookfield, painting
  • Christine Maudy – Woombye, painting

Also taking part is Heny Mullholland – Earlwood, NSW (recently moved from Dutton Park).

Full biographies of each artist are available, as well as print-quality images of their work.
