Parliamentary Secretary to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade De-Anne Kelly urged Australia’s Year 11 and 12 secondary students to explore export opportunities at a launch in Toowoomba today.
Launching the new Exporting for the Future (EFF) multimedia teaching resources Innovative Australian Businesses Go Global, Mrs Kelly said Year 11 and 12 students are Australia’s future business leaders and a wealth of opportunity awaits them.
“Austrade’s new multimedia teaching resources kit will enable secondary students to learn about the export potential of Australian small business products or services and the value of targeting overseas markets,” Mrs Kelly said.
“According to Austrade research, export opportunities for future business people lay in micro, small and medium-sized businesses.
“Australia’s small, niche and knowledge-based businesses have great export potential because of better market access, new technologies and competitive business practices,” she said.
The resources kit includes a new book and DVD of case studies which were developed in partnership with the Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources, as EFF teaching resources to guide and extend senior secondary school Business Studies students’ understanding of contemporary business issues and opportunities.
Mrs Kelly said Australian businesses were capable of providing unique solutions which delivered real value-for-money for overseas customers.
She said Australia’s extensive trade policies, including free trade agreements, increased market access for businesses and Austrade was helping them through these opened doors.
“International trade is a vital part of our country’s future and free trade agreements between Australia and key trading partners can help us maintain our competitive position,” Mrs Kelly said.
