Overview

Inbound tourism is Australia’s largest services export. The economic value of international tourism to Australia is forecast to be worth $24.2 billion in 2009 (a decrease of 2.1 per cent on 2008) before returning to growth in 2010 (+2.2 per cent).

Austrade has a Memorandum of Understanding with Tourism Australia, the key government statutory authority promoting Australia as a tourism destination both internationally and domestically. Austrade works collaboratively with Tourism Australia and does not conduct proactive trade activities in Tourism Australia’s key markets.

Austrade is a member of the Australian Tourism Export Council (ATEC), the peak industry body for tourism export, and is a contributor to various government and industry tourism forums, such as the National Long-Term Tourism Strategy.

Austrade provides tailored assistance to tourism companies on a fee-for-service basis in any market (beyond what Tourism Australia and the State Tourism Organisations are able to provide).

How can we help you?

With a worldwide network of highly experienced and qualified staff, Austrade provides a number of dedicated and tailored services to Australian exporters.

The tourism sector is a big recipient of the Export Market Development Grants scheme (EMDG). For further details about the scheme and how to apply, see www.austrade.gov.au//exportgrants.
