Women in Export

More than 8000 women have been registered in Austrade’s databases as CEOs or Export Executives active in the Australian exporting community. One-third of Australia's 1.6 million of small-to-medium enterprise (SME) businesses being run by women (ABS June 2001).

The Women in Export program aims to ensure women in business are aware of, and have access to, the full range of Austrade’s services to assist them in becoming successful and sustainable exporters. This is being done by:

  • encouraging businesswomen and businesses owned or operated by women to export
  • identifying businesswomen who are active in export and who could become role models for other women in business
  • working with existing women’s networks to help them achieve a greater export focus among their membership

Recent Women in Export events include the 2007 Women in Export Trade Day and the 2006 Women in Export Seminar Series.

Rather than duplicate the work of existing women’s business and professional organisations, the Austrade Women in Export program aims to work with those groups to facilitate the entry of women into the broader Australian exporting community.
