What does a record deal mean anymore?

Coming up on the 26th of November our next Masterclass will look at the State of A&R in the US, and explore what it means to have a record deal. For details on this event, view the event flyer (PDF),or if you would like to attend register now.
We anticipate that this will be a wide ranging discussion looking at majors, indies, who are doing deals, what types of deals, who are the key decsion makers, and whether labels are needed anymore.

- Warner Bros Records’ Lisa Nupoff, is an A&R rep in Los Angeles, working with such artists as Muse and Arctic Monkeys. Lisa’s impressive career includes working for the groundbreaking hip hop label Ruthless Records and working with the legendary music executive Benny Medina’s management and artist development company.

Myspace Records’ Tobin Watkinson is an A&R rep in Los Angeles. He has also worked for indie label Fiddler Records as well as having other joint ventures with Sony/BMG and Warner Bros. He has been involved with OneRepublic, Panic at the Disco and many other artists.
- The Firm’s Deborah Klein is a senior artist manager with the Los Angeles-based powerhouse management company The Firm. In her career she has represented clients including Flyleaf, Yellowcard, Vanessa Carlton, and Folk Implosion. She is also the GM of the Firm’s EMI record label Firm Music overseeing a roster that includes Five Finger Death Punch, Mandy Moore, and Army Of Anyone.
- Greenberg Traurig’s Todd Cooper is an entertainment attorney whose practice focuses on music industry, multimedia and intellectual property issues. He has negotiated recording, distribution, and other agreements with both major and independent labels as well as negotiated co-publishing, sub-publishing and songwriter agreements with music publishers. His clients include Incubus, Katy Perry, Live Earth and others.
