Hilton Food Group invests $115 million in new meat processing facility

UK-based Hilton Food Group plc (Hilton) is expanding its presence in Australia by constructing a new meat processing facility in Queensland.

The facility will enable Hilton to supply meat products to Australian retailer Woolworths, via its Australian joint venture, Woolworths Meat Co Pty Ltd. In a media release, Hilton valued its investment in new plant and equipment at approximately A$115 million, and stated it expected production to commence in 2020.

The new facility will be capable of supplying Woolworths stores in Queensland and northern New South Wales with beef, lamb, pork and value-added meat products. The development is subject to identifying and acquiring the site, government approvals, and the negotiation and finalisation of construction and tenure agreements.

Established in the UK in 1994, Hilton Food Group is a leading operator of meat-packing facilities across Europe. In January 2013, the group entered into a joint venture with Woolworths in Australia. The joint-venture company currently operates two production sites, one near Melbourne and one in Bunbury, Western Australia. Together, the two factories supply meat products to around one third of Woolworths’ retail stores.
