$5.7 billion funding for higher education and innovation in Australia

9 February 2010

The Australian Government has committed $5.7 billion over four years for higher education and innovation.

This funding will help achieve the aim of increasing the number of Australian 25-34 year olds holding bachelor-level qualifications or above by 40 per cent over the next fifteen years.

The Minister for Education, Julia Gillard, said that the number of publicly available places at Australian universities has already been lifted by 7.5 per cent and that early estimates show that this year there will be a potential increase of 45,000 full-time equivalent students since 2008.
