Brett Cooper

Brett commenced work as the Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner Japan in August 2016 and is responsible for the Austrade Japan network, which includes offices in Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka, and Sapporo.

Brett has previously served as the Senior Trade Commissioner for Korea in 2011, and prior to joining Austrade worked as a Senior Advisor at the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet (PM&C) in Canberra, where he was responsible for international policy development and preparing advice to the Prime Minister, including as head of the International Strategy Unit. Before joining PM&C Brett worked as a management consultant in Japan, the United States and Australia, and has also worked for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Canberra and on diplomatic posting to the Netherlands.

Brett was a recipient of the Korean Government scholarship program (1997-2000) and graduated from Seoul National University with a Masters of International Law, and was a recipient of the Japanese Government scholarship program (1992-1997), completing his Bachelor of Law at Kobe University in Japan.
