Mr Havas joined the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade)
in May 2012 and is currently Australia’s Senior Trade and Investment
Commissioner to Malaysia and Brunei, overseeing a broad commercial
relationship and agenda with these key trading partners. In addition to his
core responsibilities Mr Havas is also responsible for driving the Austrade
ASEAN team’s regional communications strategy. Previous to his current
role, Mr Havas was Australia’s Trade Commissioner to Peru and Ecuador with
responsibility for Bolivia and oversaw Austrade’s mining and resources
teams across Latin America to develop strategies to promote the growth of
Australian industry across that broad region.
Mr Havas has a strong background in international business strategy,
investment attraction, international relations, cross border business
development and project management and he works closely with key partner
agencies on the Australian Government’s Economic Diplomacy strategy.
Prior to joining Austrade, Mr Havas was the Director of Foreign Investment
and Strategic Partnerships for one of Australia’s largest regional
governments. Mr Havas has spent time working in multiple overseas markets
including the UK, Spain, USA and Latin America in particular.
