Saïd Metwalli is the Counsellor and Trade Commissioner at the Australian Embassy in Bogota, Colombia. He leads a team of business development managers tasked with promoting Australian products and services, helping companies enter the market, as well as promoting Australia as a study destination.
Saïd was the second and last Consul-General heading the post in Colombia, before the Australian government upgraded its diplomatic presence to an Embassy in June 2017.
He previously served as Counsellor and Trade Commissioner at the Australian Embassy in Abu Dhabi (2011-16), diplomatically accredited to both the UAE and Qatar, and had sectoral responsibility for Rail, Resources and Energy across the MENA region.
Saïd has a strong grasp of the Nexus between government and business having previously worked as a Business Relationship Director for a Fortune 500 technology provider. As the company’s customer relationship specialist, he was recognised for his efforts at embedding a culture of customer advocacy. His private sector career includes the full life-cycle of customer relationship management, business analysis, product development, market analysis, sales strategy – including international expansion, deal closure, implementation, training and mentoring.
Saïd is a true Global Cosmopolitan with a mixed heritage and has lived in Europe, the U.S., the Middle East and Australia, with extensive work in China and the Asia Pacific region.
He is multilingual; fluent in English, French, Arabic, with professional proficiency in Spanish. He is also an avid traveller with over 60 countries visited, and has a special interest in social responsibility, with personal projects delivered in PNG and Bangladesh.
Saïd has an Executive MBA from the University of New South Wales in Sydney, a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from The American University in Cairo and has undertook Executive Education courses in Leadership at both INSEAD and Harvard.
