Ian has served as Consul-General and Trade Commissioner in Fukuoka since
December 2016. He and his team cover all seven Japanese prefectures on the
island of Kyushu together with Yamaguchi and Okinawa. Prior to his current
role that he was Consul and Trade Commissioner in Sapporo. Ian has also had
official postings as Consul and Trade Commissioner, Nagoya and to the
Australian Embassy, Tokyo.
Ian has lived and worked in Japan for close to twenty years in a various
roles in both private industry and in senior Australian government
positions. Ian is a long-time specialist in business, marketing and
commercial strategy in Japan.
Ian is a graduate of the University of Queensland where he earned both his
BA (Japanese language) and his MBA (Finance). Ian also studied at both
Sophia University and Komazawa University in Tokyo.
