2018 KPMG The Global Demand for Skills report released

17 May 2019

The Department of Education and Training has released an update of the 2016 KPMG report The Global Demand for Skills to identify changes in the skills gaps of twenty emerging economies in the Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and Latin America. The findings will help inform the next phase of implementation of the Australian Government’s International Skills Training (IST) courses.

The updated report has identified a growing need for upskilling in service industries, with the transport and logistics sector having the highest need, followed by tourism, construction, aged care, health services, retail and wholesale, food and beverage, and childcare.

The sectors where upskilling is needed correspond with Australia’s training strengths, which provides opportunities for Australian training providers, whether through the delivery of Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) courses or the IST courses.
