Travellers are advised to check with their nearest embassy or consulate for the latest advice on visa requirements. According to the Embassy of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in Canberra, visas are required for all Australian citizens and can be obtained from the embassy in Canberra or the nearest embassy or consulate in the country in which you are a resident. Visa applicants should allow sufficient time for processing. Business visas permit a stay of up to 10 weeks and can be extended for up to one year on a case-by-case basis.

In addition to obtaining a visa from embassies or consulates in advance of travel, Myanmar’s Ministry of Immigration and Population recently reinstated a visa-on-arrival program for business travellers entering Myanmar through Yangon international airport. Visitors from Australia and 25 other countries are eligible for business visas of up to 70 days. However, this policy is subject to change and Australian visitors are advised to clarify requirements with the nearest Myanmar Embassy or Consulate, or the Ministry of Immigration and Population website prior to travel.
