South Asia Food and Beverage Mission Post-Gulfood 2019

About event:

Austrade South Asia presents a unique opportunity to Australian food and beverage (F&B) exhibitors at Gulfood 2019 to maximise their presence in the region by undertaking a visit to one of three prospective South Asia markets: Sri Lanka, Pakistan and India.

Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka’s high growth hospitality sector driven by an upsurge in international tourist arrivals has created a significant opportunity for the Australian meat, dairy, wine and processed food sectors.

Pakistan is an untapped market. The 5th most populous country in the world with a growing consumer base of over 6 million consumers exposed to international F&B products makes Pakistan an attractive destination for Australian companies. The relatively simple import regulations in Pakistan in comparison to other markets in South Asia, and entry of Al Futtaim Group’s Hyperstar chain of hypermarkets and supermarkets are additional growth drivers.

Insight: Pakistan Food and Beverage

India’s food and grocery market was pegged at US$380 billion in 2017, with the modern trade formats of supermarkets and hypermarkets growing at 15 per cent annually. The key demographic for imported foods is an estimated 30 million Indians with a spending capacity of US$30,000 per annum – the target market for Australian premium F&B categories.
