Prime Minister's visit to India
The Hon Prime Minister Tony Abbott MP and the Hon Minister Andrew Robb AO MP, Minister for Trade and Investment, led a delegation of 30 senior Australian business figures on a high-level business mission to India.
The aim of the mission was to build trade and investment ties with one of Australia’s most promising markets. Minister Robb said that his vision for Australia and India is a partnership that builds on our strengths, gets residual barriers to trade and encourages bilateral productive investment. This includes developing existing ties, ensuring that both Australian and Indian businesses are aware of existing and emerging opportunities, building on Australia’s already strong education links with India and highlighting Australian capabilities in energy and resources, food and agribusiness, tourism, medical and health.
The programme included industry roundtables in Mumbai and New Delhi, bringing together top Australian and Indian executives to forge stronger business relationships, promoting economic engagement and discuss investment opportunities to support growth in the two countries. The Minister announced he would return to India in January 2015 with a 300 strong business delegation showcasing Australian competitive strengths. Online registrations for Australia Business Week in India will open early October.
