Prime Minister's visit to Singapore
The Prime Minister, the Hon Tony Abbott MP, lead a high level Australian business delegation with the Trade and Investment Minister, the Hon Andrew Robb AO MP to Singapore 28-29 June 2015. This was a historic visit to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Singapore and its 50th anniversary of independence.
The Prime Minister and the Trade and Investment Minister signed the Singapore Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP) during this visit. The CSP is the most significant element of Australia’s recognition of diplomatic relations with Singapore.
This mission was also an opportunity to promote the expected trade and economic benefits of a Closer Economic Relationship (CER) with Singapore and the opening of the new James Cook University (JCU) Campus was a highlight of the mission which demonstrated education ties between the two countries.
The mission concluded with the Prime Minister’s Singapore Lecture, which highlighted regional and global security issues and promoted Australia’s counter-terrorism cooperation with Singapore under the CSP.
