Tony Eyres - Senior Investment Specialist, Sydney

Tony Eyres

Tony Eyres has a strong background in capital markets globally, covering investment banking, capital raising and advisory roles to corporate and government clients.

Tony has been involved in large capital inflow investment projects valued in the hundreds of millions. He has worked in roles in Australia and New Zealand, most recently with UBS, with exposure to investors across Asia, the US and Europe. These include large institutional investors such as pension funds together with specialist private equity firms and high net worth individuals.

He brings to Austrade a strong strategic acuity, an impressive depth of knowledge of industry supply chains and a strong alignment with the Government’s investment agenda.

Tony has a Bachelor of Science degree (in agriculture) from the University of Western Australia and was awarded a Churchill Fellowship for travel to the US, UK and Europe in 2000.

He maintains a passion for rural and regional Australia and an understanding of the importance of investment, including on infrastructure, to provide growth and employment opportunities in this part of the nation.

Tony has previous experience as Austrade’s Senior Investment Specialist for the Resources and Energy sectors. He commenced as Senior Investment Specialist for the Agribusiness and Food sectors on December 2017.

Paul Field - Senior Investment Specialist, Sydney

Paul Field

Paul Field brings to Austrade a deep background in the life sciences industry, having facilitated a number of commercial deals in areas such as novel therapeutics, biomarkers, medical devices and other technologies developed by Australian biotech companies and research institutions. He was previously Executive Chairman of Bio-Link Australia, a biotechnology business development company with offices in Melbourne and Sydney.

Before joining Bio-Link, Paul managed the biotech start-up company incubator at the Australian Technology Park, Redfern. Earlier he was Commercialisation Manager at the University of Technology, Sydney and he managed international sales for Cellabs Pty Ltd, an Australian immunodiagnostics company, including a four year posting in Munich, Germany. He also previously worked in the Sydney office of the Japanese trading house Itochu, with a focus on medical technologies. He is currently a Non-Executive Director of the Co-operative Research Centre for Living with Autism Spectrum Disorders (Autism CRC Ltd.) and a Non-Executive Director of the ANZ Breast Cancer Trials Group (ANZBCTG) which is the largest independent oncology clinical trials research organisation in Australia and New Zealand.

As a Senior Investment Specialist, Paul will focus on advanced manufacturing, services and technologies.

Hugh Funder - Senior Investment Specialist, Sydney

Hugh Funder

Hugh Funder has an MBA (Sciences Po), a Master of Public Policy (Georgetown University), and a Bachelor of Arts (University of Melbourne), and brings a depth of knowledge and experience of state government policy, particularly public private partnerships.

Hugh comes to Austrade from Lend Lease Engineering where he was Manager of Business Development. Prior to this he has held structured finance and infrastructure advisory roles at ABN AMRO and at the Royal Bank of Scotland RBS where he worked to expose potential investors to market possibilities. He has also been Chief of Staff to two Federal Ministers and a State Minister.

In the past, Hugh has consulted with Microsoft Australia, NAB and Aquasia, and has worked with various government, urban design, international education, and international non-government organisations. Hugh undertook post graduate research in Melbourne and Paris, and was an intern on the Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade in the early 1990s.

As a Senior Investment Specialist, Hugh will focus on major economic and social infrastructure.

David Grabau - Senior Investment Specialist, Melbourne

David Grabau

David Grabau has strong technical proficiency and experience in the Resources and Energy sectors, and brings to Austrade a valuable combination of experience in both government and ASX top 20 corporates. David’s senior commercial roles include advising major Resources and Energy companies across strategy, risk, and project management.

He was most recently the Global Resilience Programme Manager for IAG and was previously Head of Government Relations at both IAG and CGU Insurance.

David spent several years working with BHP Billiton across its the minerals and petroleum businesses, including appointments as Manager Group Risk and Senior Advisor Corporate Development.

He brings with his commercial expertise over a decade of experience in government which includes work with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Canberra and Thailand and work with the Office of National Assessments.

David has a Masters in International Relations, a Graduate Diploma in Trade, Economics and International Law and a degree in Politics.
