Gerard Seeber - Consul General and Senior Trade Commissioner - MENA

Gerard Seeber

Gerard is the Australian Trade and Investment Commission’s Senior Trade Commissioner for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region and Consul General in Dubai. He is currently based in the Australian Consulate General in Dubai. The key sectors of focus in the MENA are education, infrastructure, health, agribusiness and investment into Australia. A key focus for Gerard is attracting investment into Australia by engaging with the Sovereign Wealth Funds and major corporates principally in Gulf Co-operation Council countries.

Gerard commenced his career with Austrade in 1987. Subsequently he was appointed as Trade Commissioner to Milan (1988), Moscow during the collapse of the Soviet Union (1990-1993), and Tehran during the opening up of the oil industry (1994-1998). In 1999 he was appointed Senior Trade Commissioner of LATAM and Consul General Sao Paulo (1999-2004).

Prior to taking up the role of Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner in New York, Gerard was State Manager for Austrade in New South Wales based in Sydney (2005-2007). During his posting (2007-2011) in New York he was responsible for financial services investment attraction in the Americas and for managing Austrade’s activities in the North East of the US.

Preeti Rekhari

Preeti Rekhari is Austrade’s Senior Investment Manager based in Dubai, responsible for promoting and facilitating productive investment into Australia from the United Arab Emirates and other Gulf Cooperation Council countries. She works closely with Gerard Seeber, Consul General and Senior Trade Commissioner - MENA, primarily in raising awareness of major infrastructure financing opportunities in Australia amongst GCC investors. The other focus area for her is the Australian Government’s tourism investment attraction program. Preeti was appointed to this role in May 2012 but prior to that was working for more than a decade at Austrade in trade facilitation for Australian businesses in various sectors like financial services, ICT and food.

Preeti holds a Masters in International Business degree from the University of Wollongong in Dubai.
