Collaboration with states and territories

Last week, the NSW Government announced it would fund temporary crisis accommodation for international students affected by the COVID-19 crisis, to be delivered through approved student accommodation or homestay providers. This is an important commitment from NSW. Austrade continues to work with all international education study destination agencies across the nation — each play a vital role in supporting international students and providing welfare services, mental health support and emergency relief.

The Australian Government and states and territories are working together to deliver a range of initiatives that support providers, agents and the diverse businesses in international education through the COVID-19 crisis. From financial assistance and regulatory changes, to marketing and export information and support, we are #InThisTogether. Study with Australia campaign

Last month, Austrade launched the Study with Australia campaign in partnership with FutureLearn, to promote an Australian higher education showcase of online courses. The pilot offers a selection of free, taster courses to a worldwide audience as part of a global campaign running until 30 June.

Since its launch we’ve seen enrolments from over 107,000 online learners in 196 countries – the top 10 global markets being the United Kingdom, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, USA, Philippines, Nigeria, Egypt, Indonesia and Brazil. Australian universities and English language training providers were invited to participate in the campaign and Australian universities are included in an online directory on FutureLearn.com, which connects with more than 12 million learners worldwide. Providers can still add courses to the course collection page until 30 June.

The Study with Australia campaign’s success is a fantastic recognition of Australia’s online education offering, and the first to use our new Nation Brand. This bold and unified approach will ensure that despite unprecedented changes, we are ready to showcase Australia to the world, accelerate our future and redefine our international reputation together. Our new Nation Brand will continue to be promoted in Study Australia campaigns and initiatives in the coming months.


This week’s inspiring #InThisTogether student story features former international student Hyemi Lee, who started a business with two fellow international student alumni to supply Adelaide’s restaurants and bars with creative wines from producers across Australia. Visit the Study Australia website to learn how Hyemi and her partners got creative and responded to the new realities facing the hospitality industry during the COVID-19 crisis, by launching an offshoot online business called A Case of Hope.
