Austrade and EduGrowth launch the Australian EdTech Directory
11 Nov 2020
Austrade, in partnership with EduGrowth, has developed the Australian EdTech Directory – the authoritative source of information about Australian edtech companies.
Australian edtech companies are solving problems and adding value across the education spectrum from early childhood to university and technical education. At present, 42 per cent of Australian edtech organisations are focused on the kindergarten to year 12 schools sector. This is followed by almost a quarter (23 per cent) in the higher education sector, 18 per cent for edtech used in the workplace, followed by the vocational sector at 17 per cent.
Opportunities for Australian edtech companies to support global education outcomes are growing and emerging rapidly. There are also increasing opportunities for international partners to work with, collaborate and invest in Australia’s edtech sector.
The 2019 Australian EdTech Market Census found that global investment in edtech increased from $500m in 2010 to $7bn in 2019, with predicted expenditure on edtech to reach $341bn by 2025. In Australia, the edtech sector nearly doubled in size between 2017 and 2019 and is now the second largest startup community in the country, behind fintech. The sector is also maturing, with increasing numbers of scale-ups, rather than start-ups.
Today in Australia there are 600 edtech companies employing a workforce of almost 13,000 experts who generate $2.2bn in revenue for the nation. All of Australia’s established edtech companies are exporting, earning over a third (37%) of their revenue from exports. And for Australian late stage startups, the majority (84%) are already exporting, earning just over one tenth (13%) of their revenue from export. In the executive ranks, a quarter (25%) of Australian edtech organisations are founded or led by women.
As per EduGrowth’s motto, Australian edtech organisations are all about connecting, collaborating, and accelerating.
