Introducing Austrade’s international education team in the Americas

14 Sep 2018

Following the announcement of the onshore international education matrix team, this article introduces the team in the Americas. The Americas team covers Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and the US.

The Americas team have a strong track record of assisting many Australian education providers of different varieties to enter these markets. We have increased awareness and interest in Australian education through campaigns, outreach, fairs and the training of agents. We’ve also connected Australian researchers and state government colleagues with local partners in academia, industry and governments.

Our focus in the Americas is in four areas:

  1. Research
  2. Edtech
  3. Student recruitment
  4. Vocational education and training (VET) and industry training.

These align Australia’s strengths with the opportunities we see in market. Our work in North America is principally focused on edtech and research funding links. In Latin America, our focus is more on student recruitment, and VET and industry training, with a more reactive approach to research (principally in Brazil and Chile) and edtech. While this guides our proactive focus, it does not prevent us from providing support across all four themes.

The calendar for this financial year features a number of activities:

  • a research mission and an edtech mission to the US, including an updated report on the market for edtech
  • a collaborative digital campaign in Latin America aimed at attracting quality students to Australia
  • a student recruitment mission to Pacific Alliance countries (Colombia, Chile, Peru and Mexico)
  • an insight report about industry training opportunities in Latin America
  • an exploratory report about the market for edtech in Latin America.

The team are keen to continue to be of service to the Australian international education sector by capitalising on the knowledge and experience of the team members across the Americas. To do so, we want to listen, to ensure we understand, and are responsive to, your objectives in the region. By doing so, we can bring you the right kinds of the opportunities and help you navigate the challenges of operating in this part of the world.
