2022 Year in Review data report

Austrade’s 2022 Year in Review report brings together publicly available data sources to explore market trends over the full calendar year 2022.

Key results include:

619,371 international students studied through Australian educational institutions, an increase of 8 per cent (47,022) on 2021 but down 18 per cent (-137,342) compared to 2019 (pre-pandemic).
Total enrolments increased by 4 per cent to 746,387 (30,362) compared to 2021 but were down 22 per cent (-205,978) compared to pre-pandemic levels.
Total commencements increased by 39 per cent to 393,066 (110,022) compared to 2021 but were down 23 per cent (-117,381) compared to pre-pandemic levels.
As at 13 March 2023, 89 per cent of student visa holders were in Australia (up from 74 per cent on 14 March 2022).
