Department of Home Affairs releases September 2019 student visa data

The Department of Home Affairs has released September 2019 international student visa data. Student visa grants are up 6.8 per cent in YTD September compared to last year.
Key results, for YTD primary student visas, include:
- Onshore grants grew at a faster rate (15.7 per cent) than offshore grants (1.2 per cent), with onshore accounting for 42 per cent of visas granted YTD September.
- Higher education experienced the greatest growth (8.3 per cent), followed by VET (7 per cent) and independent ELICOS (6.1 per cent).
- Both the postgraduate research sector and the school sector experienced declines, down by 2.5 per cent and 1.1 per cent respectively.
- Of the top 25 markets, 16 experienced increases. The three fastest growing marketing were the Philippines (95.6 per cent), Saudi Arabia (54 per cent) and Mexico (26.4 per cent).
