February 2020 international student data available

The Department of Education, Skills and Employment February 2020 international student data is now available. Compared to February 2019:
- Total enrolments increased by 8.0 per cent, while commencements increased by 1.6 per cent
- VET saw the strongest growth in commencements (10.1 per cent), followed by Schools (2.3 per cent). All other sectors declined, including a 0.8 per cent decrease for higher education
- India accounted for 46 per cent of the overall growth in enrolments, Nepal 15 per cent and Philippines 13 per cent (combined 74 per cent).
- The largest increases in commencements by percentage change were Colombia (26 per cent), Bangladesh (19.6 per cent) and Vietnam (16.0 per cent)
NOTE: Please treat any comparative analysis with caution as the data reflects student intake and timing - some providers do not commence until March and this can vary by year. A current enrolment does not mean a student has arrived onshore.
