YTD May 2022 international student data available

The Department of Education has released year-to-date (YTD) May 2022 international student data. There were 469,248 international students on student visas for May 2022, 11% less than Jan-May 2021. The top 5 countries account for 60% of international students, China (28%), India (16%), Nepal (9%), Vietnam (4%) and Indonesia (3%).

There were 518,375 enrolments between Jan-May 2022, composed of 54% higher education (282,304), 38% VET (194,437), 5% ELICOS (24,550), 2% schools (9,030) and 2% non-award (8,054). Compared to the Jan-May 2021 period, enrolments are down for higher education (-13%), VET (-10%), ELICOS (-14%), schools (-29%) and non-award (-23%).
