Visa conditions and extended hours for students working in agriculture
01 Feb 2021
On 5 January, 2021, the Minister for Agriculture and Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs announced changes for temporary visa holders working in the agriculture sector.
The changes will allow student visa holders to work more than the usual 40 hours per fortnight limit during semesters, if they are employed in the agriculture sector.
Temporary visa holders working in the agriculture sector will also be able to access the COVID-19 Pandemic Event visa, up to 90 days before their existing visa expires (up from 28 days), and no longer need to demonstrate an inability to depart Australia.
Harvest Trail Services, administered by the Department of Education, Skills and Employment, can assist temporary visa holders to find harvest work.
More information on the COVID-19 Pandemic visa can be found on the Home Affairs website.
