Business hours

Businesses are usually open from 9.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday, but may close earlier on Fridays. Some government offices may have different business hours.

Shops are generally open from 9.00am to 6.00pm and some to 8.00pm. Shops may have limited opening hours on Saturdays and very few are open Sunday.

Banks and Money

ATM machines, called 'Geldautomat' are widespread in Austria. Visa, MasterCard and American Express are usually accepted, but not everywhere, as most Austrians still prefer to pay cash. Some shops and cafes do not accept credit cards, especially in smaller cities. Banks are usually open from 8.30am to 4.00pm Monday to Friday. They are closed on the weekend, but ATM machines are accessible 24 hours.
