Dhaka is serviced by a number of major international airlines, however, there are no direct flights between Australia and Bangladesh.

Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) is about nine kilometres from the diplomatic zone (Gulshan) where some business hotels are located, and 13 kilometres from the main city centre. The hotel shuttle service or pre-arranged hotel limousine service is the best way to travel to the hotels.

Ground transport

Air-conditioned car rental with a driver is available on an hourly, mileage or monthly basis.

Yellow taxis are available in limited places and bookings are made through their call centre.

Rail travel in air-conditioned or first class is quite comfortable for the Dhaka to Chittagong and Dhaka to Sylhet routes.

Buses, peddle rickshaws and three wheelers are available, but are not recommended for safety reasons.

A five per cent tip is usually expected in the more expensive restaurants.
