Australia’s visitor economy needs a secure, resilient and skilled workforce. It’s also important that it can withstand changing market forces.

Workforce shortages and capability

Addressing workforce shortages and building workforce capability are critical to growing a world class visitor economy.

Austrade is committed to supporting these efforts. We work across governments and industry to:

  • modernise the visitor economy workforce
  • address workforce and skills.

Support for businesses

The Department of Education, Skills and Employment has programs and services to help businesses attract, train and keep workers.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade administers the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme. The scheme helps to address workforce shortages and provides employers with a pool of workers.
