Restarting Australia’s business events sector
On 11 September 2020 the Australian Government announced it would provide $50 million to create the Business Events Grants Program. This assistance is part of the $1 billion Relief and Recovery Fund which is providing assistance to sectors, regions and communities disproportionately affected by the economic impacts of COVID-19.
The program will be administered through the Australian Government’s Business Grants Hub, with guidelines developed in consultation with the government and industry stakeholders.
Supporting Australia’s Exhibiting Zoos and Aquariums Program
On 28 April 2020 the Australian Government announced it would provide $94.6 million for the Supporting Australia’s Exhibiting Zoos and Aquariums Program. This assistance is part of the $1 billion Relief and Recovery Fund which is providing assistance to sectors, regions and communities disproportionately affected by the economic impacts of COVID-19.
Regional Tourism Bushfire Recovery Grants
On 11 February 2020, the Australian Government announced the Regional Tourism Bushfire Recovery Grants program, a $10 million grants program which has been drawn from the Bushfire Recovery Fund. The program is part of the Government’s $76 million tourism recovery package to protect jobs, small businesses and local economies by helping get tourists travelling into bushfire affected regions.
Applications can be made in two streams. Applications for the program opened 17 February 2020.
Stream 1 applications close 5:00pm (AEDT), Friday, 18 December 2020
Stream 2 applications close 5:00pm (AEST), Friday, 8 May 2020
Grants are available for eligible local government authorities and regional tourism organisations in bushfire affected areas. Applicants will be invited to apply by Austrade.
The grants will support events, concerts, festivals and visitor attractions in fire affected regions to assist with recovery efforts and encourage visitation back to the areas.
Export Market Development Grants (EMDG)
The Export Market Development Grants (EMDG) scheme is a key Australian Government financial assistance program for aspiring and current exporters. Administered by Austrade, the scheme supports a wide range of industry sectors and products, including inbound tourism and the export of intellectual property and know-how outside Australia.
The EMDG scheme:
- encourages small and medium sized Australian businesses to develop export markets
- reimburses up to 50% of eligible export promotion expenses above $5,000 provided that the total expenses are at least $15,000
- provides up to eight (8) grants to each eligible applicant.
