An initial Schedule of Approved Business Events is now available. The Schedule will be updated as more EOIs for events to be included on the Schedule are assessed. If your event is not on the initial Schedule, this means your EOI is still being considered. We will contact you with advice of an outcome in January 2021.
Business Events Grants
On 11 September 2020 the Australian Government announced it would establish the $50 million Business Events Grants program. This program is funded under the $1 billion Relief and Recovery Fund which is providing assistance to sectors, regions and communities disproportionately affected by the economic impacts of COVID-19.
This initiative will empower the business events sector which, due to COVID-19, has seen cancellation of events contributing to a near 100 per cent loss of revenue.
It will instil confidence back into the business events sector, and support the broader business community by stimulating high value, multi-day business to business events across multiple sectors of the economy.
There are two key Phases involved in the Business Events Grants program:
- Phase 1: Schedule of Approved Business Events (applications still open)
- Phase 2: The Business Events Grants program (opened 4 January 2021)
List of priority sectors
Most events on the Schedule of Approved Business Events align with one or more of the below priority sectors. Businesses applying for a grant will also need to demonstrate alignment with a priority sector and that the sector benefits from attendance and participation in the event. The priority sectors are:
- Food and agribusiness
- Oil and gas
- Medical products
- Clean energy
- Plastics and waste recycling
- Enabling digital technologies
Industry Advisory Panel
An industry advisory panel has been appointed to provide advice to Austrade and the Business Grants Hub on program implementation and the Schedule of Approved Business Events. Panel members are:
- Ms Sandra Chipchase, former CEO of Destination NSW and former CEO of the Melbourne Convention Bureau. (Panel Chair)
- Ms Penny Lion, Executive General Manager, Events, Tourism Australia
- Dr Leo Jago, (OAM) Director of Tourism and Business Events International.
Business Events Grants Program
The Business Events Grants program opened at midday (AEDST) on 4 January 2021 and close on 30 March 2021. The Business Grants Hub will administer the Program. Program guidelines and application information is available at business.gov.au. Applications will be submitted through the Business Grants Hub.
The Business Events Grants program will support Australian businesses by providing grants between $10,000 and $250,000. Grant funding will cover up to 50 per cent of costs incurred in participating at pre-approved business to business events as buyers or sellers during the 2021 calendar year.
Questions about grant applications, eligibility or the program guidelines should be directed to the Business Grants Hub by calling 13 28 46 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Schedule of Approved Business Events
The initial Schedule of Approved Business Events is now available. The Schedule will be updated regularly as more EOIs are assessed. We have received over 700 EOIs to date. If your event has not been published on the initial Schedule or you have not heard from us, your EOI is still being considered. We will contact you with an outcome in January, regardless of whether your event is eligible or not. We will prioritise assessing those events that are early in 2021 so event owners have certainty.
If we consider your event does not meet program eligibility, you will be encouraged to request feedback to adjust your application and resubmit prior to 26 February 2021. Please wait until we have contacted you to request feedback. Thank you for your patience as we work through these.

EOIs are expected to remain open through to 26 February 2021 but please be aware EOIs may close earlier to manage demand on the program or if all program funds are committed.
