A better night's sleep with connected Digital Care
May 2019
Since Australian medical device company ResMed commercialised sleep apnea
treatment options in 1989, they are now an industry leader, boasting almost
6,000 employees globally and distributing their devices and software
solutions in 120 countries.
Recognising the benefits of Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP)
therapy for people with sleep apnea, ResMed designed and developed a range
of CPAP masks and CPAP machines that are quiet, comfortable and 100%
cloud-connectable.
ResMed’s focus on digital health is having a profound effect on the
wellbeing of its sleep apnea patients. Their cloud-based tool, AirView,
enables remote monitoring of patient treatment and patient coaching, as
well as secure storage of a patient’s diagnostic, prescription and therapy
information, allowing seamless clinician collaboration.
“It’s been a huge game-changer for the way we look after our patients and
customers,” said Brett Sandercock, ResMed CFO. “We know AirView helps
with business efficiencies, saving clinicians nearly 60 percent on patient
management time.”
In conjunction with AirView, ResMed’s new self-monitoring app, myAir, helps
patients track their therapy progress between visits to their clinician,
including a simple daily sleep score and personalised sleep coaching tips.
Combining AirView with myAir helped CPAP users achieve 87 percent
adherence. Every day, 1,500 new patients sign up for myAir.
With more than nine million cloud-connectable devices sold into the market, it’s safe to say ResMed is keeping true to its mission of pioneering
innovative solutions that treat and keep people out of the hospital,
empowering them to live healthier, higher-quality lives.
ResMed’s Australian export figures are impressive, including revenues over A$800 million in 2018. With plans to continue expansion into high growth
areas such as China, India, Eastern Europe, Brazil and Southeast Asia ,
combined with its recent $2.5 billion investment in the popular
software-as-a-service (SaaS) space, the future looks bright for ResMed’s
continued international growth.
