Global tech consultancy Infosys to create 1,200 jobs in Australia

30 Nov 2018

Infosys, an India-founded technology consultancy, has announced it is creating 1,200 IT jobs and opening three Innovation Hubs in Australia by 2020.

Innovation Hub locations will be announced in the first half of 2019.

Infosys, which specialises in consulting, technology and next-generation services, says its jobs initiative will meet growing demand for digital expertise in Australia.

‘I welcome Infosys’ decision to create 1,200 IT jobs in Australia by 2020,’ says Karen Andrews, Federal Minister for Industry, Science and Technology in a company media release.

‘It’s a great vote of confidence in our economy, and the Coalition Government’s commitment to jobs of the future, that a company of Infosys’ global standing would make this kind of investment here.’

Infosys’ Innovation Hubs will be centres where businesses, universities and governments can ‘co-create and co-innovate’ on emerging technologies and solutions. These may include fields such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, user experience, cyber security, digital platforms, big data and cloud.

Approximately 40% of new hires will be Australian university graduates from fields including computer science and design.

Andrew Groth, Infosys’ Senior Vice President for Australia and New Zealand, adds that 75 graduates have already been recruited.

‘Continuous education is a collective effort and we are proud to work with the government, academia and local communities to help build and shape our next generation of entrepreneurs and innovators,’ says Groth.

Austrade has had a long association with Infosys in India, the US and Australia.

Austrade worked closely with the company to ensure the Innovation Hub program, which originated in the US, progressed seamlessly to Australia. The agency also provided Infosys with market insights into Australia’s digital economy, including ‘future of work’ issues that are central to Infosys’ strengths as an education and training-focused organisation.

As part of Infosys’ decision-making process on where to locate its three Innovation Hubs, Austrade has assisted by organising state and territory government presentations.

Established in 1981 in Pune, India, Infosys is a New York Stock Exchange–listed global consulting and IT services company with more than 217,700 employees. It has grown to become a US$11.31 billion company with a market capitalisation of approximately US$44.4 billion.
