Toyota opens new A$40m Product Centre in Australia
20 Dec 2021
Toyota Australia has opened a A$40 million state-of-the-art Product Centre at its Centre of Excellence (CoE) facility in Victoria. It forms part of Toyota’s overall A$150 million investment in the CoE.
Creating automotive products for the world
The new Product Centre is based at Toyota’s 22-hectare CoE in Altona. It will be home to all of Toyota’s local planning, design, engineering and evaluation teams.
Toyota wanted to retain and build on the capability developed during its long history of vehicle manufacturing. The collaborative environment will allow Australian design and engineering expertise to be used across the Toyota family. It will also support Australia to spearhead new projects for the local market and beyond.
‘Our design and engineering teams are highly utilised by Toyota affiliates around the world,’ says Rod Ferguson, Toyota Australia’s Product Planning and Development General Manager. ‘This is thanks to their exceptional ability to create products that resonate with customers across the globe.’
Hydrogen production facility
Toyota’s CoE houses the Hydrogen Centre, a hydrogen production, storage and re-fuelling facility. It can produce up to 80 kg of hydrogen per day. It is a commercial-grade refuelling outlet for commercial and passenger fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs).
